Enfield Big Bike Charity Ride
2007
The sponsored 'Big Bike Ride' that was
due to take place during Bike Week in June, finally took place on Saturday 8th
September.
It was cancelled during Bike Week due
to flooding around the Sheffield area where it was stranded.
At long last, some ECC riders joined a 24
strong crew pedalling the largest bike in the UK around the borough raising money for
Nightingale Hospice Trust. Everyone seemed to have a good time. Whoever
invented that old saying: "many hands make light work" (or was it legs?) had
clearly never ridden a 24-seater bike!
We were joined on the route by a happy
entourage of outriders from the club, riding their own bikes alongside the big
bike, shaking collecting tins, and generally keeping our spirits up.
The Big Bike set off on its
main trip around the borough fronted by a parade of horses along London Road. We
were then on our own for the rest of the route along Church Street, Edmonton Green,
Hertford Road, Carterhatch Lane, Lancaster Road and Chase Side, back at around 2.00 pm.
Many thanks to all of you who made
donations to sponsor the ride. Edmonton CC raised £475 towards the event (extra
special thanks must go to Denise Murphy's generous friends and colleagues!) We
have not yet received the final figures from the Hospice, but in excess
of £2000 was raised, plus a further £314 on the day in the collection tins. The
final figure will be announced shortly.
Unfortunately the deadline for sponsor money
has now gone but
you can
still donate
direct to the Hospice via the link below.
